Breaking News!

Whew...so much going on right now!

James' mom is coming to visit tomorrow! I am very excited to hang out with her when there is nothing stressful going on! The first time I saw her was James' WOCS graduation and the second time what at our wedding! While there are things going on this weekend they aren't stressful and that is going to be awesome! Tomorrow after we pick her up from the airport James and I are getting baptized!! Tomorrow night we are having dinner with some friends, Sunday is Easter church, and then Monday is James birthday!! He's old! I mean like over the hill old. So old he can't even remember how old he is or how old he is going to be. Haha last week someone asked him how old he is going to be and he said "Well, I am 27 now" at which point I interupted to let him know that he is currently 26 not 27 haha! Yep, that's my husband, an old man with memory loss! [I love you baby] I can't wait to share pictures of what I got/made him with y'all but if I do that now he will see them and we can't have that!

There is also some very exciting news to share! I am so excited for the END of flight school. The end of flight school also brings my family to visit, family day at the flight line, the graduation ball, James' graduation, and our move to Ft. Carson!!!! Yes, that's right, Colorado Springs!!!! There are not enough exclamation marks to explain how excited I am! Colorado Springs was our number one choice. And...my big sister lives there! We should be heading out there in about a month! Hopefully we start getting some more information so we can actually start planning things like where we are going to live, travel, packing ect. I am ready to get this move going! There are so many things I want to do but it first involves us getting settled in!

I have also decided to add a page to this blog where I will post 'things the Lewellyn's say' Kind of like the book 'shit my dad says'. I mean seriously this stuff is too funny not to share with y'all! Not to be full of ourselves but we are a funny couple! For example here is a conversation James posted on his Facebook last night...

So Laney Lewellyn, my wife says "I bought ice cream for your birthday" this is then followed with "I already ate some." ...... my wife ladies and gentlemen, the ice cream thief!

Who knows maybe one day I will have it as a book! haha! :)
Anyway...check out my new page and leave me comments! I want to know what y'all think!

5,6,7,8...

I see dance being used as communication between body and soul, to express what it too deep to find for words.  -Ruth St. Denis

Great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion. -Martha Graham

These are two if my favorite quotes. I grew up dancing. I was a dancer, I am a dancer. Even though I no longer dance (in my house doesn't count) I will always be a dancer in my heart. In the heart, that is where a dancer is made. From 4-19 I lived and breathed dance. I knew nothing else that made me feel the way I feel about dance. I owe this great talent/passion to the most dedicated dance instructor I have known. Miss Vicki! I feel like when most people think of a dance teacher "Abby". The mean dance lady from "Dance Moms". I really dislike that show. Dance is an intense sport. Yes, I said sport but no I will not argue if dance is or is not a sport. Anyone who is a dancer knows that it is an art and a sport and a way of life.  While being intense there is a line that keeps it from being mean. I believe this line to be based on "constructive criticism".

A recommended set of instructions that aims to collaboratively improve     the overall quality of a product or service. Often containing helpful and specific suggestions for positive change, constructive criticism is highly focused on a particular issue or set of issues, as opposed to providing general feedback on the item or organization as a whole.

A term that I leaned from dance and have taken to every aspect of my life. I always appreciate constructive criticism. This is a way for peers to help each other become better!
I could talk about dance ALL day but there are really two reasons I wanted to write this post.
1. I really miss dance
2. I want to share some dance videos with y'all

Here are some of my favorite dance videos...

Spring cleaning!

I love when it starts to warm up outside. It was 55-60 degrees today and it felt amazing! I had my windows open and spent my morning cleaning. I cleaned the house and did all the laundry including the sheets and comforters in our bedroom and the guest room and all the blankets from Optimus' room (Crate). I also cleaned our mattress. I used a baking soda and upholstery cleaning combination on the mattress. I found this idea on Pinterest...
1. Vacuum the mattress
2. Spray the mattress with upholstery cleaner
3. Allow the mattress to dry completely.
4. Sprinkle baking soda on the mattress.
5. Allow to set for 1 hour.
6. Vacuum the mattress again.
This helps to clean and freshen the mattress!

To continue my things I tried on Pinterest...

I like this idea because you can do this with some many things. I did this with coffee but it can also be done with tea, juice, lemonade, or almost anything else. Freezing ice cubes to match you drink will keep your drink from getting watered down when the ice melts! I used some in my coffee for the first time today and I could drink my coffee right after the Kurig was finished brewing, which never happens!

Here are some more things I have found on Pinterest and tried.

I did this and it worked amazing!
-Water+Lemon
-Boil in the microwave (about 5 minutes)
-Let sit to 'steam clean'
-Wipe clean

And it leaves your kitchen smelling of lemons!
I hate when my knives get rusty. They look dirty even when they come out of the dish washer. When I found this I was so excited.

Place your knives in a cup as shown to the right. Fill with lemon juice (to cover the metal part) and allow to sit. I left mine for about 24 hours. Then wipe clean! It worked! It kinda smelled bad but it worked!

I am one who thinks sponges are nasty and a great way of spreading disease. While I don't know how much this disinfects but when done at least the sponge is 'cleaner' and looks like it did when I bought it.
Place your damp sponge in the microwave and 'cook' for 2 minutes and then allow to cool before you try to grab it out of the microwave.

**side note - I recommend cleaning the sponge before you clean the microwave with the lemon water combination because after you clean the sponge your microwave and kitchen will spell like cooked sponge.**

This house is the first one I have had and electric stove. While I love it I also hate how anything boiling over instantly burns onto the stove top.

I was so greatful when I found a pin on how to clean the burnt stuff off your stove top because normal scrubbing just wasn't working.

1.Cover the burned stuff with baking soda
2.Fill a large bowl with warm soapy water.
3.Place a hand towel in the water.
4.Ring the towel about half way.
5.Lay the towel to cover the baking soda.
6.Allow to sit for 15 minutes.
7.Gently rub the stove top in a circular motion.
8.Wipe away the baking soda, salt, soapy water mixture and your done!

This worked for me. I hope it works for you too!

So, this week I will be re-trying a way to help clear acne from my face. I say re-try not because this didn't work but because I didn't keep doing it. My face is really broken out and really oily right now so I am going to give this Pinterest find another go and see if I get some awesome results. I am actually going to combine two methods I have found on Pinterest.

The first step will be to wash my face with a mixture of olive oil and baking soda. I will make a mixture of 1Tbs Baking soda and enough olive oil to make a paste. I will apply this to my face. I will then place a wash rag soaked in hot water onto my face, for a steaming affect. I will allow this to sit for 2-3 minutes and then rinse my face with cool water.

The second part will be to make a mixture of 1 part apple cider vinegar, 3 parts water and let it sit. Then with a cotton swab I will rub the mixture across my face, let sit for fifteen minutes and rinse with cold water. I will then take a Q-tip and place the mixture on the large pimples and let stay for the night. The pinner said that her face was clear by morning so we shall see!

Are there things on Pinterest that you want to know if they work but don't want to try them yourself? Leave me a comment and maybe I will try them for you!!!!

Goodnight y'all!  :)

Been There, Tried That...

I am thinking I am going to share with y'all things that I have  found on Pinterest and tried myself.  Some of which worked and some of which did not!
I have three I will share today!

When I saw this picture I was just about to move in with James in Alabama (where we are for a couple more months). I liked the idea of framing a house key a lot but I changed it up a bit!
1. I found a map of Alabama that had Enterprise (the city we live in) on it.
2. I printed the map in the size 5x7  to fit the frame I bought.
3. I drew a heart around our city
4. I made a copy of the house key at Lowes for around $2
5. I then used super glue to glue the key to the map.
6. Placed the map in the frame and then ALL DONE!

It was so simple and I have gotten a few complements about how cool it is!
I think this is a great idea for military families because there will most likely be a few different cities and house keys in your life. What a great way to remember the first one!

My finished product ---------------------->

When James moved to Alabama I still had 6 months in Tennessee before I could join him. It was tough but I got to visit him at least once a month. I found a cute idea of a dry erase picture frame to leave notes. I made him one and he put it beside the bed. I left him a note every time I visited and it stayed there until my next visit! After I moved it we would write notes on it from time to time.

This picture shows it with a quote that we both love!

My favorite thing to do on Pinterest is find recipes. When I  moved to Alabama 9 months ago my cooking was pretty limited. Mac and Cheese, Chicken, Burgers, Deer, and eggs. Since then I like to think that I have became a pretty good cook. I owe that credit to pinterest. That is where I have found almost all of my recipes.
I decided that like all websites Pinterest will probably run its course and something new will come along. So I thought it might be best to print the recipes I find. I haven't gotten them all printed yet and I add more everyday but I have printed a lot of them. I even printed them a second time to give to a friend. This is something that could make nice house warming gift or graduation gift.

 :) More to come!
