Let's Hike a Mountain!

Woo Hoo! Today was such a fun day! My husband and I slept in then went and hike a trail called "Section 16" it is here in Colorado Springs and it was fun! It was a beautiful day and the trail was not too hard (other than my normal back issues)! We hiked 6.06 miles in 2 1/2 hours! I am so glad I finished the hike because I am super out of shape. Well, I mean I have a shape but it is round! haha I got some really nice pictures of us! Which made me realize I want to dive into photography a little bit more! I would like to make hiking a weekly activity! I need to find me a friend who likes that sort of thing!

Check out the tabs at the top of my page!

Make sure y'all check out the other tabs at the top of my page! I have LOTS of yummy recipes!

"Let's talk about sex baby"

Just kidding! Let's talk about making a baby!

Have you ever noticed that once you tell people you are trying to have a baby everyone has the perfect thing to do to get pregnant? That is how it seems to be for me anyway. I am grateful for all the advice but I think it is funny how there are so many "perfect ways to get pregnant."

So far I have heard...

Have sex the day you are ovulating
Have sex three days before you ovulate
Take prenatal vitamins
Take 800mcg Folic Acid
Elevate your hips after sex
Get drunk and have sex
Don't think about it

While some of these have had medical research studies done on them I am quite certain most of them haven't or have been proven to have no effect.

While it may have no effect I have been taking prenatal vitamins and Folic Acid. It is a good idea to already be taking them when you get pregnant and it helps with hair and nail growth so why not! I have also gotten and ovulation kit that way we will at least know when I am ovulating! Other than that I think it will happen when it happens and if it doesn't then maybe that is how it is supposed to be! One last thing I have been doing is praying about it. While I haven't always been the most religious person over the last year I have been learning more and more and I strongly believe in praying!

Doesn't it also seem like while you are trying to get pregnant EVERYONE you know gets pregnant? I have seen that 3 of my friends are pregnant just today! Congrats to them but geez!

Leave me a comment and let me know what old wives' tales you have heard about getting pregnant! Who knows, they might just work! :)

You commented and I will answer!

I always ask what y'all think I should write about and a while back my best friend Jen suggested this one...

"You should write a post about your college experience and how it molded you, and how things have changed since. when you were in college, what did you think you'd be doing at this age? Etc. :)"

So here it goes!

When I left home to go to college I was 18 years old and all I wanted to do was be an athletic trainer. So, I enrolled at Ball State University and work really hard my freshman year so I would be able to apply to the athletic training program.
My freshman year I had a CRAZY roommate! Seriously she needed help. She was dirty, her part of the room was dirty, and she had very little respect for herself or others. But while living in that dorm I met Jen who would be my best friend through out college and still is to this day! She lived across the hall from me. We didn't talk at first but once we did it was awesome! I still this one of the funniest things from that year was when a group of us played a drinking game called "Helen Keller" and I learned a very important lesson about me and Vodka.
At the end of freshman year I applied to the athletic training program and I got in! I was so happy!
Sophomore year I lived in the dorm again but I made the choice to have a double room to myself. This was awesome because that meant I got to put the two beds together to make a king size bed! haha it's the little things right?
This year was the year I made the best grades. Mainly because the first semester I knew no one on my floor and I was the only sophomore there other than the RA. So, I then became friends with her and she introduced me to the person I started dating. He seemed so awesome and I just thought I was "so in love" hahahahaha I wish I would have opened my eyes a little sooner!
That year I was the athletic training student with the women's gymnastics team and then the football team. I spent 6 weeks with each team, going to every practice and every game! It was awesome!
My junior year my RA and I decided that her, I, and one other girl would get an apartment together. BAD IDEA!!!!!!! I firmly believe that there is no situation in which 3 girls can live in an apartment together!
That is the year I turned 21! My 21st birthday was the night I learned a lesson about minding my own business and not saying everything I think. I get beat up in the parking lot the bar because a Muncie local was drunk and said some inappropriate things. Instead of just ignoring her I choose to talk back to her. So while she beat my head off the window that boyfriend I told yall I thought I was "so in love with" stood and watched. He was a real winner for sure! About two months later those girls I lived with decided they were not happy with the living situation and one of them decided she was going to try to beat me up too but instead she ended up on the floor while I held her down and called the police. To this day I am glad I didn't hit her back, so not worth it. I soon after moved out and got a one bedroom apartment by myself! As you can see Junior year was rough on me in my personal life but let me tell you how awesome my athletic training was that year...
I was lucky enough that I was picked to be the student athletic trainer for the men's basketball team. This is when I found my mentor and friend! Troy! He is the best athletic trainer I have ever met or worked with! I learned so much and was lucky enough to get to travel with the team for their entire basketball season! This was my favorite sport while I was in the program. I learned more in those few months than I learned anywhere else!
After basketball season I was over I had serious thoughts about changing my major. I realized that athletic training was very time consuming and made it very hard to have a personal life. I ended up not changing majors only because I didn't want to be in school for more than 4 years. So I stuck it out, finished my degree, and passed the national board of certification exam to finally after 4 years become a certified athletic trainer.
Just like that college was over and I took a job in Kentucky as the athletic trainer at a private high school.

Some times I look back at my 4 years in college and wish that I had picked a less strenuous major. One where I could do things like join clubs, the dance team, and a sorority. Athletic training is a very thankless and rewarding career but it is also a very time consuming one.

I had a lot of great experiences in college and a lot of bad ones as well but I still think I didn't learn about myself, the kind of person I wanted to be, or how to be an adult until I met my husband! I am a completely different person today then I was two years ago and I wouldn't have it any other way. He has helped me to see the good in people and the good in each situation. I am thankful for him everyday!
Oh and for the last part...back then where did I think I would be today: I thought I would be an athletic trainer in a high school. Single. With no plans of a family or kids.
-Oh how that has changed. I am happily married to the greatest man I have ever met
-I am a stay at home wife
-We are working on kids ;)
My life is nothing like I planned but it is amazing and I wouldn't have it any other way!

I don't know if that is what Jen had in mind when she asked the question or if I even came close to answering it but that's what I have for y'all.

Okay, now it's off to bed for me! Good night! :)

Saturday, September 28, 2013

wow! It's almost like I forgot I had a blog or something..

It has been soooooOOooooo long since I posted I hope y'all are doing well!

I have been putting off posting, mainly because I haven't posted in so long that I don't really know what to post about!

So much has happened since I last posted. We bought a house! It is so awesome to be homeowners! I love everything about my house, especially who I share it with ;) I have the most amazing husband in the world!
Sadly not long after we got into our new home our sweet puppy past away. That is probably the most heartbreaking thing I have every had to go through. I don't have any kids but I imagine it is like losing a child. I raised her from the time she was 8 weeks old and for 2 years I was with her almost all day everyday and then just like that she was gone. But now she is in a better place where her heart isn't weak and she can run and play. Maybe one day I will be able to get a puppy again!

Okay, enough of the sad stuff...

I am blown away by how quickly I have made some of the most amazing friends! We have a great group of friends out here and it has helped so much! When we lived in Alabama I thought 'is this how it will be everywhere we go?' Luckily it wasn't because the time we spent in Alabama was a very lonely time for me! Now it is very rare that I have a day were I don't have plans! We have even had to turn down plans due to already scheduled things! IT IS AWESOME!

I am making a trip to Indiana in a couple of weeks to spend a week with my family! I even have a surprise for my family! I can't tell y'all now because they might see it! But trust me I will share it after they know!

Like I said above, being a home owner is awesome! I have done so many things for the first time in just the short time that we have lived here.
-mowed the yard with a push mower (I have only ever used a riding mower)
-ran a weed eater
-power washed and re-stained a fence
-pulled weeds, A LOT OF WEEDS
-been more interested in getting a new washer and dryer than getting anything else!(you know your a grown up when... haha)

I am thinking about adding a page to this blog for things I have found on Pinterest and tried, highlighting how they turned out or what I would do differently the next time.

I know I say this all the time but let me know what y'all want me to ramble about!

Awkward Interviews..

I hate job interviews. I always get nervous, but who doesn't right? No matter how much I research, prepare, and practice my voice always gets shakey (at least it sounds like it to me), and I seem to use a lot of hand gestures. I mean I know I am part Italian and it is how we are but I notice it a lot more during interviews.

I had a job interview today for reception/sales position at a massage clinic and I think I would be really good for the position as well as love the job but when I left the interview today I feel like they won't pick me. I guess I always feel that way after an interview. But, I REALLY want this job! They said they will let me know by the end of the week! Eeek I can't wait!

I really hope I get this job because no matter how many times my husband tells me it is fine that I don't have a job [he is amazing by the way] I still want to help him pay for things!

Speaking of my amazing husband...today while I got my nails done and went to my job interview James cleaned the apartment, which I was planning to do when I got home. I love that he doesn't mind/likes to help do things like cleaning!

So, I don't remember if I mentioned this in my post earlier this week but we are buying a house! YAY!!!! This will be the first house either of us has owned! We are so excited and even more excited to be out of the worlds smallest apartment. You know it's small when you can vacuum the entire apartment with unplugging the vacuum! haha! As long as everything goes as planned with the loan (which it should) we will close on the house on the 28th of this month! 17days!

We are are attempting 'The Incline' again on Thursday with some friends! Wish me luck! I am for sure going to need it!

:D Thanks for the comment Jen I think I will be doing post on my college experience soon!

This is my third post today! I am on fire! Please please please give me your thoughts and any topics y'all want me to ramble about!

Colorado Adventures..

I read on a blog somewhere that when you move to a new location you should be a tourist for 2 weeks. They say that you are less likely to do do the fun touristy things if you don't do them soon after you arrive. So, that is what we have been doing this past week and we plan on continuing to do a bit next week as well.

We started by attempting 'The Incline' in Manitou Springs.
Just before we started the incline

The Manitou Springs Incline, also known as the Manitou Incline or simply the Incline, is a popular hiking trail rising above Manitou Springs, Colorado, near Colorado Springs. The trail is the remains of a former incline railway whose tracks washed out during a rock slide in 1990. The Incline is famous for its sweeping views and steep grade, as steep as 68% in places,[1] making it a fitness challenge for locals in the Colorado Springs area. The incline gains over 2,000 feet (610 m) of elevation in less than one mile.
 -From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Looking up the incline from the bottom
While I am very glad we attempted it soon after arriving, I think it would have been a better idea to wait until we were completely acclimated to the high altitude. We went my sister and brother-in law and a new friend Jess who have lived here for many years so this was not as bad for them. I on the other hand only made it half way before I was getting dizzy and light headed so we took the cut off to Barr Trail. Which was a lot easier to go down than trying to go down the steep steps of the incline. I am planning to make it to the top of the incline before the summer is over!
This is just a little below where we stopped at the half way point...what a view!

At the start of this past week we went to Denver. The first stop we made was for lunch at an amazing little pizza place called Proto's. I highly recommend it for anyone in Denver!

James and I
After lunch we went to the Downtown Aquarium. It was so much fun! I have only been to an aquarium one other time and I don't even remember when or where it was. I have a lot of pictures but I will just post a couple for y'all.
James and the Shark

We also took a trip to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. So much fun! The first thing we did when we got there was to ride the 'skyride' to a high point. There really wasn't anything at the top for adults except an awesome lookout point. The ride attendant told me that at the point we were at 6,990 feet altitude. Again I took a ton of pictures but I will only post a few for y'all.

The most recent thing we did was go to the Cheyenne Mountain Shooting Complex near Ft. Carson. This is a new range and it was really nice! We took the new .45 and the .22 I already knew that I love the .22 but I fell hard in love with the new .45 I really want one of my own now!!!

And that is as far as our adventures have gone this far. We have one week left of James on leave and we are planning to visit the Olympic Training Center and possible the Cave of Winds.

*Wish me luck I have a job interview on Tuesday!!!!!!

Our 1500 Mile move!

My View for 1500 miles.

This post is a bit late, okay very late! We packed the Alabama house, rented a 26' Penske truck, and filled it to the top! We planned to make the 1500 mile drive in two days, stopping for the night in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but as we got towards the evening on day one we realized that due to construction traffic and rain we were tired and hadn't made it as far as we had planned. With some internet searching from my sister (over the phone) we found a new hotel and stopped in Little Rock, Arkansas on day one Salina, Kansas.

For anyone planning to travel with fur babies (pets) I highly recommend LaQuinta Inn. They are pet friendly with no crazy rules like keeping your pet caged at all times. The only thing they told us was they would prefer if we didn't leave them alone and we were responsible for any damages they cause.

Optimus thought she should drive!
We had a very smooth trip. The most trouble we had was getting into the temporary apartment we are staying in until we close on our house. When we called ahead they told us we could pay all the deposits with debit/credit card but when we got here they decided they would only take a money order, which you can't get unless you have cash... To make a LONG story short it was a long 3 hours trying to get the cash needed to pay the deposits and get our keys! Business professionals giving misguided information to it's customers is one of my biggest pet peeves!

But all and all our trip was a success and we are here in the smallest apartment I have ever seen.

26

26...The number of days it has been since I posted for y'all to read! Horrible! I think it would be less horrible if I didn't have an alarm that goes off every evening to remind me and I have a husband who tells me I should write! I am bad!

But here it is! We have been rather busy lately! My parents came to visit, My husband graduated from flight school, and we finally got a moving date (May 16th)

Of course since James graduated I got him a gift! I am so proud of him and I tried to get him something that would be cool and useful so I here is what I got hi:

A flight log book that is designed for Army Aviators. I got the plaque that is on it so he always has a reminder of how proud I am of him!

I also got him the bottle of Gentleman Jack and a plaque reading "Congratulation Baby! Open at 1000 hours" Meaning 1000 flight hours which I read is typically around the 6 year mark!

My parents got him the model of the UH-60 which is what he will be flying! He really liked them all which made me really happy! I am always worried I will get him something that I think is awesome and he doesn't think is! haha!

There were so many events going on the week of graduation I felt like we were just going and going but it was so much fun! Of course there are pictures of everything and of course I feel the need to share them with y'all! But it seems my photos have decided not to upload to the blog and I don't know why. :( Maybe they will work soon and I can add them!
Well anyway!
Event 1- Extended museum tour - looking at old aircraft! I think my parents enjoyed this much more that I did but I don't mind! I love when they have a good time!
Event 2- Night vision devices - We got to look through night vision goggles and see what James sees when he flys at night!
Event 3- Family day at the flight line- We got to go look at the Blackhawk, climb around on it, and take lots of pictures!
Event 4- The ball- This was a but nerve racking for me as I had never really been to anything like this. We got to get dressed up and go. The part that always makes me nervous is the formal things that have to be done while you are there and I am always afraid I will not know what to do haha.
Event 5- Graduation! YAY! James complete flight school and got his wings! I am so proud of him! He put in so much time, effort, and hard work the past year and half!

Now we are about to move! We leave here Thursday! We are loading the UHAUL Wednesday and leaving Thursday morning! We are going to make the trip in 2 days so we should be arriving in Colorado Springs on Friday night and getting out temporary apartment (while we buy a house) on Saturday! I am so excited to be there but not so excited about the drive! I will try to post on here as we go but I am guessing after 12-14 hours of driving each day I am going to be beat!

Hope y'all are doing well! Leave me your comments about what you think or about what you would like me to ramble about and I would be more than happy to try to take on the topic

**Warning- there will be lots of pictures in this post!**

This week has been awesome! Now that James is done with school he has been home ALL day! I love it! We started packing even though we don't have a move date yet. While it is nice to start getting things ready to go I have a slight problem with stopping in the middle of something. I could seriously pack our entire house in one day! This picture is after half a day of packing when we decided I needed to stop before we were living out of boxes for the next month or so.

I have been running a lot more recently! Thanks to my husband who bought me new running shoes! I am so very thankful for them because my old ones were giving me blisters and making my shin splints worse! Plus, they are super cute! I would really really like to run a half marathon (13.1 miles) I know that to some people this may seem easy but not this girl! My shins are killing me after 4 miles! I think that I am going to hold off on starting training for that until we move and I have to get acclimated. I would hate to get a month into training and then lose all my progress due to the altitude change.
I am going to keep up my running until we move and then once we get there maybe the acclimation won't take as long. Once I get used to running there I will figure out which training method I want to use and then I will share it with y'all.

Now that flight school is over for most of the people we have gotten to know while we are here that means it is graduation time! Today was the graduation of one of my best friends here! I am so happy for her! 2 weeks and it will be my husbands turn to get his wings! Then, a little bit longer for another friend! So proud of all of them! Here is a picture of Leilani and I today! YAY! Congratulations Friend!

Annnnd.....heck why not share a couple of picture of my fur babies with y'all while I am in the picture kind of mood! :)

Update: I have updated my recipies section and the things the Lewellyn's say...check them out!

"Breath, Stretch, Shake, let it go!"

Don't we all feel like doing this sometimes??

Feeling stressed and overwhelmed is something each and every one of us will feel at some point in our lives, most likely more than once! Stress can really get you down if you let it. The key to managing stress is different for everyone! With our pending move I am sure I will be experiencing some stress in the near future. I thought now would be the perfect time to revisit some ideas of how to handle, manage stress!

There are tons of ways but here are a few that I like.

1. Breath- This may seem like a small thing since let's be honest we have to breath to live so we are already breathing right? Yes, but no! Don't just breath but breathe deep, using your diaphragm (stomach region), not just from your chest. This will regulate your body's reactions and help you to remain calm.
This technique is used in yoga and if you really focus on your breathing you will feel so much release!

2. Slowly roll your shoulders back three or four times, using as much range of motion as you can. Then, roll them forward. Repeat as often as you need. Most people hold a lot of tension in their neck and shoulders helping these muscles relax will give you a sense of relaxation.

3. Tune out. Lie flat on your back and close your eyes. You can listen to soothing music or simply enjoy the silence. Imagine every part of your body relaxing with each exhale. Start with your toes, and move up through the muscles in your legs, core, arms and neck. As you breathe, visualize them becoming one with the earth or filling with light. Try to be as still as possible.
I do this to help me fall asleep at night. I like to listen to the sounds of rain or storms on my sleep maker app.

4. Find the positive- This is something that took me a long time to be able to do. Finding the 'silver lining' is something that James has helped me to be able to do. I am not going to lie it is still hard for me to do sometimes but even when I can't see it James is there to point it out for me and I do the same for him! Sometimes even the slightest glimpse of the positive can make you feel better!

5. Try meditation or prayer. Even if you're not religious, you can find great peace through purposely focusing on silencing your consciousness. Find a place where you can be alone and focus on yourself. Being mindful as a way of life is very calming and allows you to step aside from stressful events to assess them with clarity and subtlety. If you are religious here are some ways to pray in stressful situations

10 Bible Verses About Stress-
Bible Verses About Stress- From The Book of Psalms
Psalm 16:8
I have set the LORD continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Psalm 18:3-6
I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, And I am saved from my enemies. The cords of death encompassed me, And the torrents of ungodliness terrified me. The cords of Sheol surrounded me; The snares of death confronted me. In my distress I called upon the LORD, And cried to my God for help; He heard my voice out of His temple, And my cry for help before Him came into His ears.
Psalm 55:22
Cast your burden upon the LORD, and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.
Psalm 56:3-4
When I am afraid, I will put my trust in Thee. In God, whose word I praise, In God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid. What can [mere] man do to me?
Psalm 118:5-9
From my distress I called upon the LORD; The LORD answered me and set me in a large place. The LORD is for me; I will not fear; What can man do to me? The LORD is for me among those who help me; Therefore I shall look with satisfaction on those who hate me. It is better to take refuge in the LORD Than to trust in man. It is better to take refuge in the LORD Than to trust in princes.
Bible Verses About Stress- From the Book of 2 Corinthians
2 Corinthians 4:8-11
we are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. For we who live are constantly being delivered over to death for Jesus' sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.
2 Corinthians 11:27-28
I have been in labor and hardship, through many sleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure. Apart from such external things, there is the daily pressure upon me of concern for all the churches.
Bible Verses About Stress- From the Book of Philippians
Philippians 4:6-7
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Bible Verses About Stress- From the Book of 2 Samuel
2 Samuel 22:7
"In my distress I called upon the LORD, Yes, I cried to my God; And from His temple He heard my voice, And my cry for help came into His ears.
Bible Verses About Stress- From the Book of Exodus
Exodus 33:14
And He said, "My presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest."
Put your faith in God and you can overcome any stressful situation. I hope these Bible Verses about Stress found you at a time of need and helped you to trust in the Lord more. Please add any other Bible Verses about Stress in the comments.

6. Don't beat yourself up. If you're having a bad day, look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself good things. Take a warm bath, or schedule some leisure time for your hobbies.

7. Spend time with animals. Dogs and cats can be tremendously helpful during stressful moments. There's nothing better than a nonjudgmental furry friend to hug and talk. Talk out your concerns with your pet around.

8. Do what you love- Immersing yourself into your favorite hobby or thing to do, even if only for a short period of time, can help you to relax and center yourself.

Personally I like to hulk it out "Laney Smash" as my husband would say!
Just kidding! When I get stressed out I like to turn up my music and run, dance, or punch it out on the punching bag (I guess that would kinda be like hulking it out). And sometimes all it take is a good cry - come on, I'm a girl, it's what we do best! ;)

**Not a stressful note but I want to send a shout out to my husband! Tonight is his last check ride (evaluation) of flight school! I am so proud of him! He is an amazing man!
Congratulations baby!! I love you James!!!!!
